Poble Nou de Benitatxell celebrates Women's Day strongly

10 March 2020 - 10: 15

The demands of women resonated strongly last Sunday, March 8 at El Poble Nou in Benitatxell. Although they had been doing it all week. The programming around the International Women's Day, organized by the Department of Equality, Gender and Diversity Policies, by Victor Bisquert, and the Housewives Association, officially started last Monday, March 2 with the chat 'Benitatxell: unnoticed gender architectures'. Poblera Ana Arbona toured the architecture of the municipality with a gender perspective and gave some clues about its strengths and shortcomings.

On Tuesday 3, around fifty women participated in the urban walk and the subsequent snack offered by the Housewives Association, and on Wednesday there was bingo and chocolate with mona. Social criticism landed on Thursday 5 to the town with a Cinefórum session, in which the film 'I give you my eyes', by Icíar Bollaín, was screened. After watching this film that retracts the gender violence that a woman suffers from her husband, the attendees discussed different aspects such as patterns of the abuser, support (or lack thereof, in the case of this film) of institutions and security forces, the importance of education and how things have changed in 17 years (this story is from 2003).

On Friday 6 he had double acts. In the afternoon, the contest exhibition was inaugurated Photodone 2020, which can be visited at the Mercat Municipal. The jury, formed by experts from the world of art, photography and culture, chose the winning work and the local accésit, which will be announced throughout the week. Then, at night, the humor took the Social Center with the theater 'Micromaqué?', Which portrayed the micromachisms that women have to deal with daily.

On Saturday it was the turn of literature with a gender perspective. The little ones enjoyed the storyteller 'Això diu que ella era una dona…', an activity that was followed by the 'Dialogue with the writer Rosa Pastor Carballo'. With the moderation of Marina Gilabert, the author of poor roots spoke about her stage as a professor at the University of Valencia and the obstacles that she had to overcome due to the fact of being a woman in an eminently masculine sector. She also took a tour of her work and her childhood memories in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, where her grandfather was secretary of the town hall. In the afternoon, there was a session of 'Dona i Música' with the concert by the Grup Polifònic Ars Nova in the church of Santa María Magdalena.

This intense week concluded on Sunday March 8 with the workshop 'Amb les ulleres ultraviolades' and reading a manifesto. In the workshop, participants made ultraviolet glasses to see life with another look. Glasses loaded with symbolism that invited to detect social inequalities between men and women and that allowed to perceive unfair situations, disadvantage, contempt, etc. towards women and get to question androcentric values.

Finally, several young people in the municipality read the manifesto, which claimed full equality of rights and living conditions for women. “We love each other free, alive, feminist, combative and rebellious. Today, the feminist strike does not end: we will continue until we get the world we want ”they cried out.
