"The sea as a garbage can", by Juan Legaz Palomares

13 June 2020 - 00: 27

"Microplastic" It is a word that has not yet been accepted by the dictionary of the SAR, but its effects are noticeable in the oceans and seas in an overwhelming way, contaminating and poisoning fish, as well as all species that enjoy the wonderful life. Marine.

Microplastics are small pieces of plastic (less than 5 millimeters in diameter) that have either already been made in this size to be used in cleaning and hygiene products, or have been fragmented from a larger plastic during their decomposition process.

These microplastics end up being absorbed or ingested by many organisms, staying in their bodies and tissues. They are the elements that cause toxicity in the food chain, which ranges from marine animals that feed on them to the plate on human food, causing infections and sometimes death.

Man, from a selfish perspective, consciously or unconsciously throws millions of tons of garbage a day into the seas of planet Earth. He lives mired in an erroneous fascination and treats the sea as a world garbage dump.

There are thousands of polluting products that end up in the sea, without anyone, for whom they have responsibility, become aware of or apply legal and informative measures to alleviate this barbarism that is on the way to ruining the main and greatest wealth that it enjoys. the earth. Because not only plastics are thrown, but all kinds of objects (cans, drums, bottles and objects of various sizes, whether metal, wood ...). We can find a huge cemetery of that "Rubbish" (excrement, waste, rubbish, dirt ...). In short, abundant dirt that slowly extinguishes the life of the sea, as well as all that multitude of marine species (fish, plants ...) that have fed us for thousands of years and that continue to feed us.

The contamination is already reaching the small or large fish that we consume (whiting, red mullet, anchovies, tuna ...). And for more nonsense, gloves and masks that have already begun to appear in the sea
used as protection from the prevention of coronavirus infection.

But of course, we must not forget that the sea gives us its many riches free of charge. Because to obtain any food product or the infinity of plants, shrubs and trees that inhabit the planet, you have to plant, water and care with fertilizers or products that eliminate the pests that attack them. However, in the sea nobody plants anything. Rather, garbage, but yes, daily we extract and fish in its waters, millions of species (fish, algae and other plants that live in its underwater habitat) that we feed or use to our advantage.

Let's acknowledge, at least, how ungrateful we are to the earthly and marine environment that feeds us. Let's do a little self-examination and rectify a little of our selfish and abusive mistake, because we will also be loving and protecting our own existence.

If the political leaders and world leaders, as well as the rest of the inhabitants of the Earth, do not take note or are up to it to stop this frenetic and gigantic problem that is on the way to exterminating the immense vital wealth that the wide sea offers us We will enter a phase of extinction of life itself.

If we destroy marine life through the garbage we throw daily into the sea, if we eliminate the essence of life itself, then let us think ... If we kill the life we have left?

A very necessary item. Littering the sea is like littering in the bathtub of your house.

To the garbage we must add the predatory action of those who fleece the coastline. The fashion to buy children those nets with which they catch crabs, fish and all forms of marine life, should be prohibited. It is heartbreaking that children receive ecological pedagogy at school and parents provide them with tools to harm life.

What is in the sea is NOT touched, only looked at and admired.

Very good article! Many thanks juan! Unfortunately, I don't see a solution to the problem because the tumors of our system prevent it, the economic interests, ignorance and the lack of environmental and civic awareness. As with COVID19, it will react when it is too late. Failure to react to the fear of economic losses will be after the collapse of the economy. The costs to alleviate the diseases and environmental damages produced by irresponsible people are astronomical and we will pay them all in one way or another. Politicians do not bring solutions, it is society that has to demand at once to stop the barbarism and planetary destruction that is being committed.

Totally agree! What is being done with the sea is a real irresponsible savage. And the worst thing, in my opinion, is that there are many young people who do it, who, apparently, do not care about the future they are going to have with absolutely polluted and half-dead seas, if they are not completely dead .
