The Antoni Llidó Secondary School in Xàbia pays tribute, on March 8, to the women who taught there.

16 March 2025 - 09: 06

IES Antoni Llidó has long been a model of coeducation and the fight for the rights and equality of all. That's why, as part of its 8 program for March 2025th, the school, together with the school's equality coordinator, has organized its first March 8th Recognitions for women who have made a significant impact on both the school and the town of Xàbia.

This event aims to recognize, vindicate, and make visible to students the role of women in our closest societies, especially women who have paved the way in different areas and can serve as examples and role models for future generations of women and men.

This year, the decision was made to start "at home," and several teachers who had retired in recent years and were still vividly remembered by the students were invited to the recognition. The teachers who participated in this public recognition were Tere Arabí, Remei Baldó, Vicenta Ros, Loreto Signes, and Tere Soler.

The event, which was attended by second-year high school students, fourth-year PDC students, and current and former classmates, consisted of a roundtable discussion where the guests reflected on their professional careers as teachers, the role of education, and the fight for true equality.

Among the reflections they shared with the audience, they highlighted that, although they have not suffered significant discrimination for being women in their profession, this has not and does not happen in other professions, and, furthermore, they have had to fight hard to get where they have become.

The event also discussed how they have worked on gender equality and the fight against gender-based violence in their classrooms and recalled the beginnings of the 8M celebrations at the Antoni Llidó Secondary School. Furthermore, in the face of the danger of regression, they emphasized the importance of understanding the past to prevent the recurrence of terrible situations for humanity in which women always come out worse in terms of rights and freedoms.

To conclude the event, they reminded the students present of the importance of education and independence in order to be "masters of their lives." They also emphasized the importance of shared responsibility between men and women to care for the "person next to us" and move toward a society with true equality, which still does not exist.

The center intends to continue this event, emphasizing the social role of women, in the coming years, inviting and recognizing the work of women from different areas and sectors who have been important to the town of Xàbia. Because, for the institution, it is important that students have female role models because, as author Marcela Lagarde wrote, "there is no autonomy without biography."
