The Hospital de Dénia hosts the exhibition: 'People with noses, huge noses'

The CuidArt Room of the Hospital de Dénia hosts the exhibition 'People with noses, huge noses'. It is a sample, made up of fifty pieces of the acronym NASEVO (nas in Catalan and its initials) by the Catalan collector, perfumer and artist, Ernesto Ventós. The exhibition is curated by Cristina Agàpito, artistic director of the Ernesto Ventós Foundation.

Ventós, a perfumer by profession, developed a keen sense of smell due to his lack of hearing. For him, smell was the backbone of the rest of the senses: "the first that unites us to the world and the one that guides us with everything that surrounds us," said the Catalan perfumer. So his collection and plastic work demand greater attention to the possibilities of this sense and allow us to delve into the wonderful olfactory world.
Ernesto Ventós devoted a very important part of his life to art and the nose was always the guiding thread of his work, either as a creator of essences, a collector or a visual artist. The pieces that are now exhibited in Dénia have been specifically selected for the hospital and will be accompanied by olfactory workshops aimed at patients. They will be shown the relationship of an essence with a specific work of art, as conceived by NASEVO.

On the other hand, during the six months of exhibition of the work, samples of different smells will be carried out in order to activate the memory and imagination of the participants. It should be remembered that smell has a great reinforcing effect on our memories, even higher than sight and hearing. Olfactory memories have a longer memory permanence than images or sounds.

The Foundation was born with the aim of bringing the artistic experience closer through this sense that we often underestimate, the smell. Through actions, workshops and dissemination that the Foundation develops, the discovery of how much smell can contribute, a sensory perception that leads directly to the brain and evokes emotions, memories and sensations.
