The Consell approves the declaration of emergency of the works of the damages caused by the rains of April

August 02 from 2019 - 14: 52

The Marina Alta region suffered a strong episode of damage due to the heavy rains recorded last April, with some of the populations flooded. Given this fact, the Plenary Council has approved, today Friday, the emergency declaration of the works to mitigate the damage caused by the rainstorm that occurred from the 18 to the 22 of April of this year in the Valencian Community and which affected significantly to the regions of La Ribera, La Safor and Marina Alta.

As a consequence of these storms, and in particular due to the intensity of the rainfall, serious damage occurred, consisting of hill landslides, rockfalls, hollows, gullies, landslides, roadside ditches and water passages, woodland demolition, as well as a general deterioration of the rolling layer of a large part of the network of roads and forest tracks.

This network of roads and forest tracks are a basic resource to guarantee adequate access to the forest, both to carry out the usual tasks of management, as well as to facilitate the monitoring and prevention of fires, in addition to allowing access to the means of extinction in case of forest fire.

After the rainy episode of last April, the state of some of these roads does not allow any of the previous activities to be carried out and, therefore, its correction is considered urgent in order to maintain the road infrastructure.

Previously, by resolution of 23 of July of 2019, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition declared the emergency of the works of the works. The works have been entrusted to the public company TRAGSA for an amount of 590.742 euros and with an execution period of 3 months.
