My thanks to the Parish Priest of Nuestra Señora de Loreto and to Penya La Burrera for the beautiful feast to bless the animals on the day of their protector, San Antonio Abad (in Madrid, better known as San Antón), "the one with the pig" , in which, at the end of the Mass, I had the enormous luck of being graced with the image of the Saint. A beautiful and happy day.
And, for those who do not know why this Saint is represented with a little pig at his side, the "porquet": the story tells that, while the Saint was in retirement, far from all earthly goods, he lovingly cared for all pets, without ceasing to care for sick or persecuted people. One day a blind wild boar female appeared to him, who could not attend to her boars because of her blindness and San Antonio, compassionate in the face of the misfortune of any living being, restored her sight. That is why it is said that he was fond of the little pigs and is represented with the "porquet" at his side. He is also considered the first Christian anchorite and patriarch of the monastic life. He is the patron saint of farmers, veterinarians and all animals. In Jávea there are two niches (“capelletes”) dedicated to him. May he protect us all.
