The Department of Education, Research, Culture and Sports is preparing the start of the processing of the file so that l'Illa del Portitxol recovers the declaration of Cultural Interest in the category of archaeological site.
In the words of the head of the Territorial Service of Culture in Alicante, José Antonio López, it is not that l'illa has lost its legal distinction but that "the Superior Court of Justice has annulled the decree in which several Alicante BICs were included, among them the one from Xàbia ".
The cancellation is given by the complaint of a private company that had interests in another BIC in the province, "which has meant that the Assets of Cultural Interest included in the same file have been affected," explains López.
"But this does not affect the BIC of Xàbia permanently. From Culture the procedures are already being prepared so that the BICs that are included in that decree recover their level of protection," says the head of Culture.
Even so, López has stated that in the case of l'illa del Portitxol it does not have an urban threat so that in a short time l'illa will be reflected as BIC again.
"A private company that has interests in another Bic in the province" precisely in a Bic as if they had no land to build. No company should have an interest in a Bic. Interesting how everything can be moved to favor these "private companies" and sell it as legal when the institutions are financially interested.
