Cs Xàbia asks the government team to act before the public transport deficit

November 03 from 2021 - 13: 32

In the last plenary session of the Javea Town Hall, the spokesman for Ciudadanos Xàbia (Cs), Enrique Escrivá, has asked the local executive to act against the lack of public transport that the Marina Alta continues to suffer in
general and the residents of Xàbia in particular.

In this sense, Escrivá has urged the mayor, José Chulvi, to request a meeting with the Minister of Public Works and Mobility so that, in the same way that from the Department a bus that covers the Gandía - Valencia line has been set up to make up for the deficiencies of the Renfe Cercanías service, this service is extended to Dénia and Xàbia, or that another independent line is implanted that connects both towns of the Marina Alta with
Gandía and Valencia.

In the case of Xàbia, as reported from Cs, the urban transport connections are as follows: six services to Valencia and another four to Alicante, as can be seen on the website of the company responsible for the service. To Valencia, the first of the routes leaves at 6:45 am and the last at 16:45 pm; Meanwhile in
direction Alicante there are four other daily services, at 7:15 the first and the last at 18:50. All this contrasts with the twelve services a day that the Conselleria has implemented to cover the Valencia-Gandía route, to which must be added the rest of Alsa's trips, in addition to the Cercanías line, “which will have all its problems, but we don't have here, ”Escrivá added.

In our case, Escrivá stressed “it is not a question of putting an alternative to the train, but of putting an immediate solution to years of null management and forgetfulness in communications, because for 47 years we have been without a train in our region, and because - As the mayor has remarked - instead of rail transport, alternatives and clean transport policies that contribute to sustainability and decarbonization, in the Marina Alta we accumulate a long history of mistreatment in investments and infrastructures, and those who end up paying for it are the neighbors and
especially young people ”.

Finally, the councilor xabiero has referred to the "need to improve public transport to Valencia and Alicante, but also urban transport in Xàbia" as part of the set of actions to improve the
quality of life of our neighbors and fight against climate change. However, Escrivá lamented, “the local government has not taken any step to improve the deficit urban bus service in Xàbia, without
to have put the problem on the table of the Conselleria, and that is why we continue as always ”.

European funds and projects in Xàbia

In another sense, the orange mayor asked about the initiatives and strategies related to promoting the digitization and modernization of local administrations that the local government is preparing, since, according to
Escrivá has commented, these will be able to be paid for from the European reconstruction funds.

Thus, the spokesperson for Cs has pointed out that digitization and technological innovations will play a leading role for municipalities such as Xàbia, if we want to continue presenting ourselves as "an intelligent, accessible, comfortable and sustainable tourist destination, capable of having a click, for For example, what are the public services to improve or those most in demand in seasons of great tourist influx, or what are the data on the influx to the beaches to avoid crowds; but above all, so that we become an enclave capable of protecting our beaches and our coastline from overcrowding and non-civic practices that degrade our environmental heritage ”.

Therefore, in the face of this type of initiative, which "affects the present and future of all xabieros", Escrivá has demanded that the local executive share and channel them also through consultative bodies and citizen participation, such as the Consell de Turisme, which after the summer season is still not convened to deal with the tourist influx of the summer campaign and take stock of the aspects of improvement for next year.

Indeed, Mr. Escrivá is right, there is a deficit of urban and interurban transport in Jávea and it is unacceptable that with the times we are facing this lack of mobility for citizens, which is extremely important for the development of the region. There must be alternatives to transportation with a private vehicle, young people need it and older people also need it for their economy and well-being.
