Cs Xàbia asks for a joint action plan to solve the problems raised by the Merchants' Associations of Xàbia

August 05 from 2022 - 09: 14

In the ordinary plenary session of the month of July, the spokesperson for Cs Xàbia, Enrique Escrivá, asked the Chulvi executive to prepare a plan with the problems and needs to be solved in the municipality, both in the short, medium, and long term.

A request that Escrivá has transferred as a result of the demands made by the presidents of the Xàbia Merchants Associations: Xàbia Històrica, Xàbia Port, Arenal of Javea, Mercat and Association of
Restauradores de Xàbia, to the mayor, and that were made public by the associations themselves.

According to the mayor, some of these deficiencies raised are of a structural nature and have been dragging on for a long time, "as is the case of the lack of Xàbia Local Police officers, the outdated urban bus transport service or the lack of taxis”, which means that for many days this summer “there are not enough taxis to meet the demand”. Some problems that, in Escrivá's opinion, a government that has been in office for 11 years should have already resolved.

However, Escrivá has also highlighted other problems "much easier to address" such as the lack of signage in some streets of the Historic District, Duanes and Arenal, lighting problems, or the lack of cleanliness and litter bins, among other issues, such as the lack of maintenance of green areas and gardens, "which can be improved".

In this way, the spokesman xabiero, has demanded from the local executive an action plan, with a chronology and priorities agreed with the merchant associations of Xàbia, "and if possible, within the Consell de Turisme, where we also have representation all political parties" in order to solve, among all, the problems and needs that Xàbia presents, "especially because if, as the mayor says, in winter you have to plan the summer season and vice versa, it is not understood that it has come late and untimely when it comes to having the strategic services prepared for Xàbia, such as transport to the coves of Portitxol by bus and the granadella by trenet, or that beach services such as beach bars, hammocks and umbrellas have been launched in mid-July”.

Aid for student transport and school supplies

On the other hand, Escrivá has asked, once again, the local government to start up transport aid for middle, higher and university students who are studying outside of Xàbia. "Now that we have approved the General Ordinance on Subsidies, this should be one of the priorities of the government team, since another year cannot pass before these aids finally reach young people."

In this sense, the mayor has regretted the statements of the responsible councilor in plenary, who assured that now young people use other means, such as Bla Bla Car, and that is difficult to justify. "There are no excuses
cheap, aid must be implemented now", Escrivá stressed, pointing out that "for years, there have been associations and groups of mothers and fathers who have no choice but to organize themselves to hire buses or take turns taking their children to study , that is where these aids are going to serve especially”.

Also facing the beginning of the school year, the xabiero spokesman has opted for the Consistory to enable another line of aid to acquire school supplies - apart from textbooks. As Escriva explained,
"These grants could fluctuate according to family income and the educational level of the students and could be an oxygen balloon for the family economy, especially so that, given the scenario of inflation and uncertainty that is approaching after the summer, the ' back to school' does not become a long 'September hill' for families”.

Zero investments for Xàbia and without a third phase of the treatment plant

Finally, regarding the episode of fecal contamination that caused the bathroom to be closed in the Arenal Beach Last week, Escrivá has asked the local government to investigate, together with the Ministry and the EPSAR, the origin of these contamination values "which have done so much damage to the image of Xàbia in general and Arenal as a tourist engine in particular" .

In the same way, Escrivá has asked the mayor if, since he has finally met with the Manager of the EPSAR, he has transferred the need to invest in the Xàbia treatment plant so that it includes the third phase with which to avoid continuing dumping wastewater into the sea, "above all, because it is not understood that EPSAR opens a headquarters in Alicante, which is going to manage 170 million euros in sanitation and water purification projects, and that once again, Xàbia is the great forgotten, without receiving a single euro, when every year we xabieros enter almost 3 million euros in the EPSAR box through the sanitation canon.

As the mayor has concluded, "it is urgent to go over the screen regarding the contradictory and obsolete model that we still have for reuse and treatment of wastewater, for which we continue to pour purified water into the sea through an underwater outfall that is constantly damaged and under repair, to then extract that seawater for
desalinate it and inject it into the drinking water network.

Therefore, according to the xabiero spokesman "we must move towards a model of water purification and reuse, which is committed to a tertiary treatment of that purified water, which allows the reuse of purified water for agricultural irrigation and thus we can complete the integral cycle of the Water. And so, we could do without the submarine outfalls that discharge residual water into the sea and thus, by the way, do without the famous Arenal underwater outfall, ending the shadow of doubt that surrounds it regarding the fecal contamination that the Arenal beach has suffered. ”.
