Cs demands in Xàbia the free urban bus for those under 30 years of age

07 October 2022 - 12: 22

In the ordinary plenary session of the month of September, the spokesman for Cs in the Javea Town Hall, Enrique Escrivá, has demanded that the local government make the appropriate arrangements with the Department of Transport, so that the public transport service by urban bus in Xàbia is free for young people under 30 until the end of the year.

A measure that the mayor has highlighted, as one more way to continue fighting inflation and ease the burden of many young people, and at the same time for being an incentive for sustainable mobility, "especially after another year without the City Council having promoted any measure to promote sustainable mobility, neither by the European Mobility Week, nor practically during the rest of the year”.

As explained by Escrivá, despite the fact that the urban bus transport line is not a municipal but regional responsibility, "there should be no problem in achieving free transport, especially after the announcement by the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, about free transport public” on the Metro, Tram and bus lines of the Generalitat, from next October 9 to December 31.

In this sense, Escrivá has directly urged Chulvi to "implement as Mayor the same measure that he applauded a few days ago in Les Corts Valencianes as a deputy." A discount measure for urban bus transport that "is also not unknown in Xàbia, since currently retired people have discounted urban bus trips." The mayor, has continued explaining that "in the case of an outdated public transport line and expired for years, the free urban bus for young people would be a good first step to dignify public transport in Xàbia; or at least, the Xàbia City Council should adhere to the 50% discount on urban transport for young people under 30 years of age announced by the Generalitat”.

On the other hand, Escrivá has proposed that the City Council study signing an agreement with the taxi drivers of Xàbia, to discount a certain number of trips for young people under 30 years of age, in urban trips made by taxi, provided that it is two or youngest by service performed. In this way, as the mayor has pointed out, "we continue to encourage public transport, while lending a hand to a sector that has suffered so much in the pandemic, such as taxi drivers in Xàbia."

Fiscal empathy measures with the residents of Xàbia

On the other hand, Escrivá has asked the local executive to adopt measures of 'fiscal empathy', especially to relieve the pocket of SMEs and the self-employed in Xàbia, with measures such as aid for the payment of the garbage rate for establishments such as shops, hospitality and other activities. As well as rewarding those small businesses that have made an effort to maintain the jobs created during the summer season, giving aid to meet Social Security and self-employment fees.
Some measures that, as the mayor has pointed out, "were announced by the local government itself in the year 2.020", since they were part of the package of initiatives of the economic reactivation plan to deal with the pandemic. "Unfulfilled initiatives, which were not adopted at the time, but given the delicate economic situation that is approaching and with the escalation of prices that we are already suffering, it would be a good time to start them", Escrivá highlighted.

"We still have time to rehabilitate the Ambolo cove"

Lastly, Escrivá has demanded that the Mayor ask the Provincial Headquarters for Coasts to "put their shoulders to the wheel once and for all to help us rehabilitate the Ambolo Cove, especially so that it does not follow the same example as the Tangó Creek, that in the end due to inaction, we have lost it forever", said the mayor, who has asked the local government to provide the opposition parties with the report on which the Ministry is based, "so as not to recover and condemn for always to the emblematic Tangó Creek, so appreciated by all the residents of Xàbia”.

    It's pathetic.

Of course. The first and, for many, the main thing is that the bus should run every half hour throughout the year. And work, of course, on Sundays and holidays, since many people, workers or not, are left completely isolated without an affordable means of transport. Free for those under 30 seems exaggerated to me, since retirees have a bonus of 10 free trips per month, perhaps a similar one would be more correct. At the age of 30, one is too old to be able to pay for the bus, since it seems that for drinks and other superfluous expenses they do not lack. But I've been protesting this for years... and I'm still doing it here, even if it doesn't help.

It has to be free for everyone and especially for people who have difficulty walking.

Instead of it being free for those under 30 years of age, it should be at a reduced cost for all those who use public transport since inflation affects everyone and I think that more so for those over 30 years of age since those under 30 usually being, in general, financially helped by their parents even after becoming independent, in addition to the fact that if the bus schedule were extended so that it runs every half hour, 365 days a year, it would help encourage companies to hire people who do not have own vehicle since many times this profile is rejected to avoid delays in employment shifts, helping to reduce pollution and allowing citizens to have more income during the winter since in this area it is the hardest time, what you propose , no offense intended, is bread for today hunger for tomorrow.

    Sure, a great measure, I'm 32, I'm screwed, right?
    Great ideas, yes sir.
