Running to help others. That is the solidarity challenge of the mountain athlete of the Club Atlestime Llebeig de Xàbia, Ferran Bernat Barcones, for this 2021. Bernat, who faces, for the first time, this type of challenge has the purpose of running around 300km in order to raise funds for APNEA, Association of Parents with Special Children of Alicante.
The athlete explains to Xàbia.com that this initiative was born to help those who need it most, "I have closely followed the hard work carried out by the APNEA association, made up of courageous parents, who fight to give quality of life to their children with special needs through motor skills in pool".
Ferran Bernat points out that this non-profit organization has little help from public institutions, "so I thought of running four races for the benefit of APNEA with the aim that people sponsor kilometers or make donations. may well be ".
The athlete, a resident of Xàbia, started this challenge just a few days ago, specifically, last Saturday, June 5 with the 51 km route of the Bastions Skyraces, the most emblematic race in the Vall de Ribes (Girona).
"If my legs allow me, my goal is to participate in long-distance races, each time with routes of more kilometers, until reaching the CostaBlanca Trail of 101km", indicates the athlete who thinks about doing the Trixàbia 2021 which will mean 51km more with the three modalities (swimming, cycling and running) and the Botamarges, a 64km race.

About APNEA and its OSSO method
APNEA (Association of Parents with Special Children of Alicante) is a non-profit association created by families to give support to families who have children with functional diversity. It was created in 2002, almost 20 years ago, and since then it has not stopped working both on a therapeutic level and in support of families.
The objective of its foundation was to create a school for parents where they can learn, from experience, what jobs to do with their children to achieve a higher quality of life and a more balanced development of their limited motor, psychic and sensory capacities.
APNEA works with the integral method OSSO (Optimal Psycho-Sensorimotor Orientation in the family) created by Joan Farrán i Barrabés. This method tries to guide families in the What and how to do ?. This method covers all aspects of the child's life, it teaches parents to act at all times in actions as basic as eating, breathing better, eliminating excess mucus, simple things in a person without disabilities but very complex in children with special needs. Most of the work is done in water, thus facilitating sensory stimulation.
In addition, APNEA offers different services such as pediatric physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, aquatic therapy, home care and programs for the prevention of dependency and the promotion of personal autonomy.
