Compromís Xàbia renews its executive: Javier Gregorio, new local secretary

19 December 2024 - 15: 04

Last Tuesday, the Compromís per Xàbia group was called to its local Congress, a meeting of activists and supporters that served to take stock and chart the course of the group for the future. The Congress was marked by the commitment to renewal, combined with recognition of those people who have kept the group alive and active for years.

During the afternoon, Councillor Carme Català and the outgoing secretary, Pep Sapena, highlighted the work carried out during this time. Despite having only one voice in the town hall, the group has shown itself united and eager to continue working for the people. They valued the actions carried out to confront right-wing policies at municipal and regional level, managing to push through motions related to the protection of historical memory, the defence of the territory or the Valencian language in the educational field, although in the current legislature consensus has been lost on essential matters such as the fight against gender violence.

Phenomena such as the DANA of last October have shown that we are a vulnerable territory and that citizen action is essential in the face of ineffective policies, facts that the Valencianists carried as a banner in the last elections and for which they will continue to insist.

Another issue on the agenda is the problem with fishing in the Mediterranean and the European Union's proposal to reduce the number of days that trawlers can go out to sea to 2025 by 27. In this sense, Compromís per Xàbia is proud that the fishermen's concerns reached Brussels thanks to its MEP, Vicent Marzà, highlighting the party's municipalist nature.

The new local executive will be headed by Javier Gregorio and will include new names, but also the experience of historical figures in the group. Javier is 26 years old and works in the hospitality industry, a predominant sector in our town and among young people. In addition, he is a staunch defender of human rights, promoting the Movement for Palestine Xàbia during the last year, and of social rights, being part of the LGTBI group.

The candidacy is completed by Júlia Català, as head of the Strategy and Communication Secretariat; Rebeca Mahaffey and Amadeu Ros as Secretary of Political and Institutional Action, and Vicent Chorro, who continues as Secretary of Organization and Finance.

The new executive has also reaffirmed its commitment to regional reconnection, aiming to consolidate links with surrounding towns, including smaller and inland municipalities, listening to their needs and sharing experiences. In this line, Javier and Júlia have been part of the Joves PV regional executive since last October and Carme has recently been in charge of the Municipal Strategy Area in the Marina Alta regional executive, thus reinforcing the regional network of the formation.
