May 07 from 2020 - 09: 32

Compromís has registered a proposal that contemplates the partial pedestrianization of spaces such as the First and Second Montañar, around the Municipal Market, among other spaces. For this process, they ask for the motion to have the opinion and participation of citizens and businessmen, as well as political consensus. In the words of its spokesperson, "We want this document to be the basis on which all political groups and citizens work."

The proposal also calls for the establishment of traffic recommendations for rush hours, such as walking, running or driving on the right, to avoid unnecessary crossings and thus guarantee the necessary safety and social distance.

The proposal refers to short-term measures to promote the occupation of the hospitality and commerce roadway in complete safety, the implementation of a post-covid mobility plan, as well as adequate and safe pedestrian spaces. As for the medium-term measures, it is proposed to improve the bus service, the provision of dissuasive parking lots that connect with public transport or the widening of bicycle lanes.

In this sense, its spokesperson, Juan Cardona, has commented “COVID disrupts our mobility model. So we think it is a good time to bet on more bike lanes, more pedestrian areas and return public spaces to the citizens who belong to it. As well as offering a safe solution to the hospitality sector. ”

Lastly, he explained that the high dependence on the car we have in Xàbia makes us more exposed to pollution and respiratory diseases derived from it: "We know that the idea of the government team is going in this direction and therefore we believe that the debate on mobility in the municipality should be opened. The measures we propose, managed correctly, allow us to move towards more environmentally friendly and public health mobility models. ”
