Compromís calls for measures to protect the coastline and seabed against the "summer avalanche" of boats

21 July 2020 - 08: 51

The municipal group Compromís per Xàbia has registered a motion for the next plenary session, in which it urges the competent coast and environment administrations to work in favor of the protection of the posidonia and the coastline. The motion also includes the elaboration of protection laws and the delegation of powers and resources to the City Councils to manage activities in these areas, as well as control and sanction bad practices.

In the words of its spokesperson, Juan Cardona, “We need collaboration between administrations to solve the problem. We have spent too many years watching the ball pass from one to the other without real and effective solutions. For this reason we also ask for the union of forces with municipalities in the region that suffer from the same problems, both in terms of seabed and also in the management of coves. ”

According to his spokesman, Juan Cardona, "We must take the example of the Balearic Islands and other neighboring areas to protect our marine lungs. There are already European projects aimed at protecting these enclaves and applying technology and innovation to care for the environment."

On the other hand, the mayor of the formation Vicent Colomer has pointed out that "the action of the Javea Town Hall it cannot remain solely in awareness campaigns, but must lead and promote the care of our seabed. Last year we were already told that interesting forms of management would be studied, but after a year there is nothing new. ”

In addition, from the training it has been indicated that they are maintaining contacts with the ministries involved to offer solutions and channel the demands of associations and civil society.

Complaint from l'IROX

From l'Institut de Recerca Oceanogràfica de Xàbia, they have also denounced, through their social networks, the large number of boats that have anchored, this past weekend, in the coves of Xàbia. The message they have transmitted is the following:

"We do not get tired of making public the great pressure our coast is suffering with our heads turned to another place by the competent administrations. Some of our partners have even verified that some of the non-ecological buoys that the City Council had installed have disappeared from the Cala Sardinera.

It must be remembered for the umpteenth time that with this pressure our Posidonia meadows are at high risk of disappearing and that is why it is necessary to control the ships that are anchoring on our coast, destroying, sometimes without knowing it, the seabed that is so important to our ecosystem, in terms of our economy.

And it is also necessary a regulation with sanctioning legislation so that it can be managed in a sustainable and ecological way. Xàbia is posidonia, as the posters say, but at this rate, in a few years Xàbia will be a marine desert. "
