Compromís asks to elaborate a shock plan to combat the high rental prices in Xàbia

Compromís per Xàbia will take to the plenary session today (13 hours) a motion asking for recognition of the existence of a housing emergency in the municipality, which also includes the elaboration of a crash plan for the specific construction of Protection Housing Official in lots of municipal property that are offered on a rental basis.

The motion presented by Compromís indicates, according to data from the National Statistics Institute that Xàbia has 25.278 homes of which 13.038, practically 50%, is not considered as main dwellings. He also points out that the result of these figures are: 7.712 second homes and 5.326 are considered empty.

Thus, as Compromís spokesman Juan Cardona has confirmed, “The latest news confirms it, Xàbia is the municipality of Spain where we spend most of the salary to pay the rent. That is why we are facing a real housing emergency, which affects the most vulnerable sectors of our municipality ”.

To which he added that “We cannot continue to allow young people, and not so young, to move to surrounding villages due to high rental prices. Housing is a fundamental right, and as such, all administrations must ensure that we all have access to decent housing. ”

In addition, the mayor Vicent Colomer Has stated that "We believe that the construction of Officially Protected Housing should be one of the priority measures of this Town hall, since it has competences to do it”.

Finally, it should be noted that the motion also urges the central government to regulate and limit rental prices.
