Compromís asks the Government to eliminate the quota of self-employed workers temporarily and measures for discontinuous permanent workers

15 March 2020 - 10: 41

Compromís Senator Carles Mulet has called on the Government to arbitrate measures and a change in labor legislation to foresee the unexpected consequences that coronavirus or other emergency situations may have on the labor rights of hospitality or service workers and on self-employed workers, as many of them have also lost their jobs overnight.

In addition to the exceptional measures approved by the Council of Ministers, those decreed by the Valencian Government to close bars and restaurants to limit the spread and spread of the coronavirus, the cancellation of Imserso programs by the Government is added.

"In the sector it does not stop raining on wet and the hospitality of our autonomy and others is being very affected, with thousands of layoffs at the beginning of a season that started with excellent forecasts until very recent dates. That is why we will demand the Government to foresee these situations and increase their protection in times of health emergencies such as the one we live in, since there are dramatic situations, as long as many of those affected do not have the right to unemployment and the hotels have entered a spiral in which they cannot keep their staff nor the commitments for the maintenance of discontinued jobs in exchange for bonuses in hiring, so they have to fire the workers ”Mulet has indicated.

They have also asked for the extension of the measures to the self-employed: "It seems that they are still forgotten and specific measures are required for the self-employed, small businesses and companies", has added.

Thus Compromís has made a battery of questions in this regard and will transfer the matter to the corresponding committee of the Senate once normalcy in the functioning of the chambers and their organs is restored. “These service workers, like many freelancers, are helpless and unprotected. The measures taken are necessary and coherent, but a solution is urgent that allows them to extend their right to unemployment, so that they do not consume it and both the worker and the company can benefit, who is the one who maintains employment or avoids paying quotas for a job that they cannot do in many cases. The self-employed affected by the paralysis of the country should also have the right to unemployment if they meet certain requirements ", he insisted.

Lastly, Mulet has called on the Government to promote the country abroad to offset the impact of the coronavirus on tourism and support measures for the sector as a major industry in job creation, tax collection, balance of payments and demand. of related goods and services.
