Compromís per Xàbia proposes to invest the million and a half profits of AMJASA in renewable energies

May 27 from 2022 - 10: 46

The Valencian formation of Xàbia has proposed the possibility of reinvesting the benefits of the municipal water company, AMJASA, in own solar energy installations. In this way, the net profit of 1,53 million euros for the 2021 financial year may be "an opportunity for the public company to accelerate its transition to clean energy."

In a context of the general rise in energy prices, Compromís proposes the investment for both the last financial year and that of the following years. The supposed own facilities would serve "to reduce costs, move towards the decarbonization of the municipality and to lower the final price for users",

The coalition insists that the Xàbia government is not taking the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda seriously, one of whose axes is the transition to clean energy and the reduction of carbon emissions. They remember that AMJASA, as a public company with a surplus, has the potential to undertake investments.

In the medium term, the company could directly manage the desalination plant and provide electricity to the Town hall and to the citizens as a public electricity operator. In this way, it would follow the line of what is being implemented in cities like Barcelona. Something that makes up some of the key challenges for the decade and, especially, for the next legislature in Xàbia.

His spokesman Juan Cardona explained this position, while asking for an economic boost to the installation of renewables. On the other hand, he expressed concern about the future of the desalination plant whose contract ends in 2023. In this way, the orange coalition is committed to "cheap, emission-free and sustainable water" within the framework of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Xàbia .

What they should have done is charge cheaper for the water bill, because as a public company they shouldn't have so many benefits.

  2. Vecino says:

As I said in a comment, Amjasa has almost paid for the desalination plant to be able to manage it and thus be able to keep it, once it belongs to the town, the City Council will still not be able to lower the costs of water, a pity that once it belongs to the town, they will not be able to lower the prices on the water bill, I think the compromise thing is very good but it is impossible that they can lower the price of water and for the desalination plant to work with renewable energies, it would be necessary to fill all of Jávea with solar panels and we would be left without a place, for which that the formation proposes, many millions would have to be disbursed to adapt the plant and modify motors, machines, etc.
