January 21 from 2021 - 15: 20

Compromís per Xàbia opens the energy debate at the municipal level also with the presentation of a motion in which the government is urged to regulate the price of electricity, among other things. The training wants to study the possibility of promoting a municipal or regional electricity operator, as well as the creation of a Local Energy Community through the use of photovoltaic energy.

In addition, the motion also urges both the Government of Spain and the Valencian Council to study the feasibility of creating a public energy company that favors comxicotetion in the sector and benefits consumers. Lastly, it urges town hall to contract the electricity supply of public buildings
municipalities to energy cooperatives based on the use of renewables.

In this sense, the Valencian spokesman, Juan Cardona has commented that "It is necessary to address a regulation of the energy market. We cannot allow business to be done with a basic service at the times when it is most needed". To which he has added that “The City Council has a very good example in water management, where thanks to being publicly owned, nobody is left vulnerable without a supply, so if we had a municipal public operator we could guarantee a basic service and be self-sufficient at the municipal level . "

To these words has been added Vicent Colomer, who has remembered that “We have a good economic opportunity through renewable energies and it is necessary for the City Council to promote it. There are cases like Barcelona or other municipalities where the commitment to publicly owned renewable energies is generating employment while taking care of the environment ”.
