Bravo urges municipalities at risk of floods to accelerate their emergency plans

02 June 2020 - 16: 44

The Minister of Justice, Interior and Public Administration, Gabriela Bravo, has urged the municipalities to accelerate their emergency plans against the risk of floods in the plenary session of the Civil Protection Commission of the Valencian Community.

Bravo has highlighted that there are many municipalities that carry out the elaboration of their plans but that "They must expedite their approval and approval to implement them as quickly as possible, especially in municipalities at risk of floods because unfortunately climate change is hitting our municipalities and it is a necessary instrument to give an adequate response and protect people, property and the environment".

In the coming weeks, in the face of the flood campaign, the minister will begin a round of meetings with the mayors of the municipalities that have not prepared plans against the risk of floods to offer them the help and advice of the Agency's planning service Valencian Security and Emergency Response. The first contact will be in the Vega Baja region.

Of the 542 Valencian municipalities, 392 already have their approved and approved emergency plan, but only 35 have a flood plan. As Bravo has pointed out, the municipalities must accelerate the update of their plans to include their general organization of response to situations of serious collective risk and collect the mechanisms that can mobilize the necessary human and material resources that minimize the consequences.

The plenary session of the Civil Protection commission, in addition to the approval of the new emergency plans, has approved the aeronautical procedure of the Valencian Community and has reported on the draft of the beach safety decree that, predictably, will be approved by the Plenary of the Consell next week.
