The Duanes de la Mar Library, also known as the Port Library, is one of the main municipal buildings in the seaside neighborhood. These facilities house a space for coexistence between all generations as it houses the Social Center.

History
The current building of the Duanes de la Mar Library dates from October 2013. After more than a year of construction, the new cultural facilities were a reality.
reading agency
But its history dates back to 1992, when the Xàbia port area opened the Agency or Reading Room. Located on Avenida Jaime I, this new space aimed to bring culture closer to all citizens.
The Reading Agency had a maximum capacity of 40 places and more than 1.500 books on all subjects to facilitate reading and research for its users. This new room had the same services as the municipal library of the Historic Center.
New Library
Over the years, expanding the Duanes reading room was a necessity. This was located in rented premises, so the Javea Town Hall chose to carry out the construction of a new Library in this urban nucleus. The project cost close to one million euros and was paid for through the Trust Plan promoted by the Generalitat.
Facilities
The building that houses the Duanes de la Mar Library has a hybrid use. The ground floor is occupied by the Socio-cultural Center and the three upper floors, with an area of 1.300 square meters, comprise the Library building with the following features:
- Reading and study rooms
- Children's room: glazed to soundproof the noise to the rest of the rooms
- Area to consult press and audiovisuals
- computer area
- Conference hall
The basement, or ground floor, is usually the meeting place for the Retirees Association. This space consists of two rooms for different activities and meetings.
innovative project
The Duanes de la Mar Library was designed by the local architecture studio, Singular Studio. The building addresses a single volume with a rectangular shape. The design and bioclimatic strategy led it to be, in 2017, one of the 12 inspiring projects in all of Spain.
Specifically, as detailed by the architectural study itself, the center's design is inspired by its location; "The architectural approach process has been inspired by the sea. The skin of the building (metal mesh) simulates a fishing net that also provides bioclimatization: it isolates from low and high temperatures and obtains great natural lighting thanks also to its glass facades .
Services
The Public Library currently (2022) has a bibliographic collection of 24.500 books on various topics: children, youth and adults in Spanish and Valencian. As for movies on DVD, it has 3.400 and for music, 465 CDs.
Loan
This Library has a loan service for books, magazines, audiovisual material (DVD) and sound material (CD), with a maximum period of 15 days, but it can be renewed. In the summer season, the loan term is raised to one month. As far as quantity is concerned, you can take home up to a maximum of 4 books and two DVDs or CD's.
In order to make use of the material loan, it is necessary to have a membership card. This document is completely free and to request it, you only need to take a photo of your passport and ID.
Children's library
Children and adolescents have a specific room where they can find literature classified by age, as well as adapted tables and chairs. This room is glazed to prevent the spread of noise to other areas of the Library. In addition, literary quotes aimed at the little ones are sometimes hosted as storytelling or reading workshops.
In the newspaper library service you can consult the daily press and various magazine titles.
Wi-Fi
These cultural facilities have internet connection and Wi-Fi network available free of charge. Users have at their disposal 7 computers to carry out the necessary searches. In addition, they can also connect to the Wi-Fi network from their own device.
