El Town hall de El Poble Nou de Benitatxell continues with its mission of enhancing the spaces of great landscape and heritage value of the municipality. Now, thanks to a grant of 20.000 euros from the Alicante Provincial Council, it will transform a land of illegal dumping next to the Les Fonts urbanization into a recreational green area.
The aid, which falls under an investment plan for the restoration of degraded areas due to uncontrolled dumping of waste, will allow the recovery of a municipal space that is currently full of construction materials (ceramic bricks, tiles, concrete mixtures, plastics, etc. .) and weeds, which apart from a high visual and landscape impact, pose a serious fire risk due to the proximity to forest mass and urbanizations.
The action, which still has no start date, will begin with the removal of the accumulated waste for years, the clearing of the entire plot (of 13.800 m2) and the elimination of invasive species. This will achieve landscape integration and eradication of the spill site. Afterwards, the ground will be conditioned, it will be pruned
the existing trees and some native forest species more adapted to the environmental conditions of the environment such as carrasca, coscoja, carob, wild olive or lentisco will be planted.
The City Council also contemplates, once the environmental recovery of the place has been carried out, the creation of a forest green area and a picnic park, as well as the layout of a hiking and bicycle route along the Tossal Gros. To do this, picnic tables and benches will be installed under the tree vegetation, creating a space where people can go to enjoy the nature and landscape of the place.
"We want all the neighbors to enjoy this characteristic place with a high environmental and landscape value where forest land is combined with the terraces of vineyards and traditional dry land crops", said the Councilor for the Environment, Jorge Pascual, who recalled the great
bet that has already been made in the coastal area with the recovery of trails and the connection of the Moraig and Testos coves with the Morro del Roabit.
