The alliance between the Department of Health, by Isa Garrido, a local veterinarian and several volunteers will help alleviate the problem of the proliferation of stray cats without control. The City Council of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell will carry out a sterilization campaign thanks to a grant of 1.657,39 euros from the Diputación de Alicante.
The veterinarian who will perform the interventions, Verónica Català, has explained that this budget will allow sterilizing some feline 30, which will then be released. It will be in its detection and capture where the volunteers will help sensitized with animal welfare.
In this sense, several residents of the municipality have already lent themselves to collaborate catching cats through traps. Although from the area of Health they appeal to the population so that when they locate a stray cat they take it to the Benitatxell Veterinary Office (C / Molí, 8).
“In the municipality we have several large feline colonies in which animals suffer from hunger, disease and live in unhealthy situations. Some neighbors aware of the issue had already taken over their pocket to sterilize some cats, but it was necessary to act on a larger scale from the town hall to avoid enlarging a problem that increasingly worries the population ”, said Garrido.
