An abandoned plot of urbanization Les Fonts from El Poble Nou de Benitatxell will become a trekking agroforestry park thanks to a grant from the Provincial Council of Alicante. And it is that, El Poble Nou de Benitatxell took refuge in the Subsidy for investments in Trees in Urban Areas of Municipal Ownership.
With the help of 62.521 euros, the abandoned land of 17.398 m2 will be recovered and will become a recreational area for the enjoyment of all the neighbors. The intervention will maintain the agricultural and forestry character of the environment and will help the landscape integration of the place. In total, the project includes an investment of 9.500 euros in cleaning the plot, 34.000 in tree planting and 7.500 in irrigation installation.
Among the vegetation of the plot there are still some olive, almond, carob and holm oak trees that will be pruned and recovered. The project also includes the planting of autochthonous tree species such as olive trees, carob trees, oaks that will be integrated with the existing trees. The municipal technicians have indicated that "These species will be chosen because they require less irrigation, less intense pruning and are less vulnerable to diseases. To ensure the survival of the trees, irrigation facilities will be carried out."
"It is a municipal plot with a high potential as a recreational area but which is currently abandoned and unused. We want to clean it, recover it with plantations of native species, create paths and turn it into a natural micro-space where residents of the area can relax and enjoy nature " notes the Councilor for the Environment, Manolo Segarra.
