Baltasar Garzón and the ministers, Pedro Duque and Manuel Álcaraz will close the Summer Course at the University of Valencia in Xàbia

Xàbia hosts for the first time a day of the Summer Courses of the University of Valencia, specifically, the Chair of Transparency and Data Management in which the Fake news and the afterlife.

Pedro Duque, Baltasar Garzón, Hervé Falciani, Lorena Baeza, Nacho Calle and Juan Carlos Iglesias are some of the participants of the conference that will close the course focused on digital education against misinformation.
 
This will be the fourth edition, to be held from June 19 to 21 and for which registration is already open. With the motto “Deconstructing reality. Impact of fake news and post-truth ”, the conference has been co-organized together with the Open University of Catalonia, UOC, and the Xàbia Town Hall. The course arises from the collaboration framework established between the Ministry of Transparency, Social Responsibility, participation and Cooperation, the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering (ETSINF) and the University Master's Degree in Information Management (MUGI) of the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
  

Practical workshops

The summer school workshops will be held from Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 June in CREAMA, the multipurpose room of the Xábia Town Hall and will be taught by professors Tomás Saorín, Pere Masip, Silvia Martínez and Alexandre López-Borrull and by journalist Juanma Soynadie. The sessions will address examples and practical cases of how false information can be detected in different contexts: Social networks, news, data, visualizations, among others.
 
We will also work on the verification of content with the use of Wikipedia and wikidata, tools to detect bots, to analyze content and combat misinformation and false news, as well as possible procedures for action against fake news.
 

The summer course is especially aimed at professionals in communication, journalism, network and social media managers, professionals in the field of justice, municipal technicians who carry out communication tasks, as well as anyone interested in these issues. Closing: Debate on the influence of public opinion

 
On Friday, 21, in the afternoon, will conclude the course with a conference where they will discuss the influence on the public opinion of the fake news and post-truth and how disinformation is combated from different areas.
 
Experiences that will go from the data verification journalism carried out by journalists NachoCalle from Maldita.es and Lorena Baeza, from Newtral; the anti-fraud detection with Hervé Falciani, the misinformation in the legal field with the magistrate Baltasar Garzón or in the hospitality and tourism sector together with the restaurateur, Juan Carlos Iglesias. The workshops will conclude on Friday morning with the intervention of the Minister of Transparency, Manuel Álcaraz; while the day will be closed by the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Pedro Duque.
