Town hall and street vendors agree on a new rotating work shift

23 July 2020 - 08: 12

The textile vendors of the Thursday street market in Xàbia will set up their stalls two consecutive weeks and rest one. This has been agreed by merchants with the Javea Town Hall After all the previous proposals, after being studied by the technicians of the consistory, were not viable as commented by the Councilor for Commerce, Marta Bañuls.

In this way, the more than 160 businessmen who install their position in Xàbia every week, have been divided into three groups so that they can all be located, with a maximum of 8 meters of space, in the Plaza de la Constitución and that there is exhaustive control compliance with safety and hygiene measures among customers, with food stalls being installed every week.

The sellers themselves state that they are "satisfied" with this option, "we would have liked to be working every week, but of all the proposals we have presented this has been accepted", indicated a saleswoman.

The merchant pointed out that after four months without activity and seeing that there are new flares and the situation may worsen and turn back, "This is the best way to provide customer service for two weeks in a row and recover the financial situation since we work one more week than being separated into two shifts."

The mayor has indicated that each post will be separated by an awning and there will be two corridors 4,5 meters apart to access from one street to the other.
