Increases inequality in the Marina Alta: Cáritas serves 2574 people in the region in 2018

Cáritas in La Marina Alta has presented its Annual Report in which it has reported that a total of 2574 people were beneficiaries of its action in 2018, a slight increase over the previous year. This increase is due, in part, to an 45% of people who have been served for the first time this year by 2018.

Regarding the profile of the beneficiaries, those who most demand the support of Caritas are single women, young couples with children, and single people; The majority of the people who come to Cáritas are women (73%) and the largest presence of foreigners (62%) remains in this region. It also highlights a high percentage of minors, who in the Navy reached the 33% of the beneficiaries of the action of Caritas.

Projects in the municipalities

The projects developed by the Parish Caritas of La Marina Alta are spaces where "People are accompanied in the recognition and defense of their rights". In this sense, in La Marina Alta, the Cáritas have a commissary in Benissa, to cover the basic needs in food and hygiene of the families accompanied; a solidary garden in Xàbia and a school review project in El Verger as well as a music therapy workshop in the Hospital for the chronically ill and a project of Spanish classes for foreigners in Pedreguer.

In Dénia the change in the management of food delivery continues, through solidarity bank cards. These prepaid cards dignify the right to food, since they allow the recipients to buy fresh food and anonymously in commercial food establishments. Thus, it is promoted that people accompanied by Caritas can continue buying at the usual points without being
know that they receive help. The amounts allocated vary according to the family unit and their needs. The implementation of this project represents the 56% of the cost of the aid of Cáritas in Dénia that this year amount in total to 46602 euros.

In Dénia, the beneficiaries of Cáritas have been 604, with percentages in terms of profiles, nationality and sex coinciding with the region of La Marina. In addition, the 87% of the families benefited from the solidarity card project.

Another of the projects in Dénia and Xàbia are two interparroquial teams of accompaniment to employment, which people access from the parish shelters and which are formed by volunteers who inform, advise and train people in different areas such as interior painting , English, computer and sewing. During the 2018 year they achieved 50 jobs.

Cáritas also has seven garment containers located in the region, one in the parish of San Miguel de Dénia, five in Ondara and one in Gata de Gorgos. The collection of clothes is also done in the rest of the parishes of the Marina Alta where you can deposit clothes, shoes and accessories whatever your state. With the donation of clothing, work is generated for people at risk of exclusion through the insertion companies @rropa and Koopera Mediterránea.

Economic and human resources

In the 2018 year, Cáritas counted in the Marina Alta with the selfless work of 326 volunteers, most of them (76%) women. In addition, he invested a total of 183.214 euros in primary care to cover basic needs of food, education, housing (supplies, rents, etc.) and medicines, among other aids.

Likewise, the 74 for one hundred of the resources that the entity has come from its own funds through donations, collections and awareness actions.

In Dénia in this year 2018, the parish community has increased the donations and the contributions of the partners with respect to last year and next to the collections represent the 73% of the income.
