The Xàbia Folk will turn Xàbia, this weekend, into a meeting point for lovers of root music. The festival, one of the oldest and most consolidated, celebrates its 20th edition with a very attractive poster that will open
the prestigious bagpiper Carlos Núñez.

The concert, with free admission, will be this Friday, May 13, at 22:30 p.m., in the Plaza de la Constitución. Together with the soloist, the Colla La Xafigà from Muro d'Alcoi will perform. A show that will merge bagpipes and dolçaines to offer the public the best Galician and Valencian music.

The festival will continue on Saturday, May 14, with another very special project, led by the musician with Kurdish roots, Gani Mirzo. Gani Mirzo Band is a group led by Kurdish musician Gani Mirzo, born in Qamishhlo, Syrian Kurdistan, who fuses oriental melodies with flamenco and jazz through instruments such as the lute, the buzuk and the Spanish guitar. This musical event will be at 22:30 p.m., in the Plaza de la Constitución.

Mirzo will present "The Route of Dignity", a work committed to refugees fleeing war as it allocates an important part of its cache to the Duhok refugee camp. Specifically, it is a journey of solidarity through the music of Kurdistan with these musicians who, with a very personal style, have managed to unite the sounds of East and West.

The Mirzo Music Foundation was formally created in 2019 to help the population of different refugee camps in Syrian and Iraqi Kurdistan. Previously, its founder, Gani Mirzo, a musician in exile, had been working with this population since his commitment to support their people through different cultural projects. Through music, artistic activities and the sending of musical material, the aim is to offer support to people in refugee camps (promotion and conservation of Kurdish culture, support for professional musicians, musical training, socio-cultural activities such as concerts, conferences, etc.).

The musicians that make up the Mirzo Band are: Martin Meléndez (Cello), Neila Benbey (vocals, percussion), Gani Mirzo (ûd, percussion), Juan José Barreda (flamenco guitar), Josean Martin (guitar, bouzouki), Fran Lasuen ( violin, percussion, voice, rebec)

The Xàbia Folk is organized by the Department of Culture and has the artistic direction of the Romàntica del Saladar.

As usual, the Festival will close with an intimate performance in the hermitage of Santa Llúcia el Sunday May 15. This year, the closing will be at 12:00 p.m. and will feature Carol Duran and Nuria Lozano, two fundamental artists in the creation and composition of Catalan music.
