Postponed: the Fogueres Festivities will be held from 2 to 12 October

01 2020 April - 12: 11

El Javea Town Hall has announced to the Fogueres commission and the fifths of 2020 the postponement of Les Fogueres de Sant Joan.

The City Council has been gradually canceling all the major events in April and May (Easter fair, Nazarene festivities and Xàbia Folk festival) but was confident that the situation would have normalized in the middle of June, which is when Sant Joan is celebrated.

However, in early April the uncertainty is still considerable and a party of the magnitude of Les Fogueres implies an important task of organization and recruitment, in addition to a large outlay for both the City Council and the families of the festeros.

Another circumstance that has been taken into account has been the delay at the end of June or the beginning of July of the entrance exams to the University (in Xàbia the young people who that age of majority that year are festeros and therefore are directly affected by this change). For this reason, and following the same line as Alicante, it has been decided to make the decision early and avoid the feeling of insecurity that everyone involved was suffering.

The decision transferred to the spokespersons

The City Council has considered alternative scenarios, discarding the months of July, August and September because they coincide with other festivals (Moors and Christians or Loreto festivals) and the high tourist occupancy season.

Finally, it has been proposed to the Fire Commission and the fifth to fix them from 2 to 12 October, taking advantage of the festive bridge between the Day of the Community and that of Hispanidad and moving the local holiday (initially fixed for April 20) to that week (October 8).

With this calendar, the Fogueres Commission will start working today to link the program they were working on and guarantee all the emblematic acts.

Mayor, José Chulvi, has assured that postponing les Fogueres, a party that the fifths are looking forward to, is a difficult decision but one that is made precisely to have more options to save it. Chulvi has influenced the exceptional situation that the world is experiencing and that demands sacrifices and responsibility at all levels. He has also been convinced that the important thing about a party is not the day it is celebrated, but the spirit and the illusion that is put, and in that "The fifths will surely not fail."

The first mayor has guaranteed the effort of the Consistory so that they are "great parties and our Quintos can live their year in a special way and having fun."

Chulvi hopes that this change will serve to "Xàbia do not stop celebrating its great party and so that it is part of the economic reactivation of the municipality after these difficult times."

  1. José Vicente Cathar Jet says:

From my modest opinion, I think that the city council, government and opposition, should agree together with the commissions to celebrate the holidays according to a Week each of the most important holidays. Other times and needs come, and thus we complete the holidays of the festive year, Nazareno-fogueres-Moors and Christians - Loreto. Butt.
I take the opportunity to offer more than 200 puzzles that I have for all ages (dog gang, cars, froolez, Disney) and schedule an activity on the day and time that you think is most appropriate. Without any cost, well yes, a Sin beer. Salut.
