04 2020 April - 00: 45

Giving continuity to the series of interviews that we are conducting from Xàbia.com To find out how the global coronavirus pandemic is being experienced in other countries, we contacted today Andrea Ortuño Torres, a young xabiera who is in the United States, specifically in Ohio. Andrea left Xàbia last summer with the exchange program of the Rotary Club Jávea and today he tells us what this situation is like there.

QUESTION: How is the situation in the country where you live?

ANSWER: The situation in the United States is starting to get complicated. In Ohio, the state I am in, there are about 2.900 cases and about 80 people dead (as of Friday, April 3). For now there is no case in Orrville which is the town I am living in.

Q: What measures have been carried out so far? What do you think of these measures and what do you think of how they have been managed?

R: The measures that are being applied for now is to wear a mask, not leave the house until May 1 (for now), wash your hands and do not touch your face. Some people still go to work, but those who cannot do it at home online. The most important activities and the trips that were scheduled are being postponed.

Q: Do the people there comply with them? How do they behave in the situation?

R: Young people do not follow the measures too much because they say they are young and cannot get sick from the virus as much as older people, but adults do.

Q: How are you living there and being away from home?

R: I am a little scared by the situation and what may happen to my family from Spain, but I talk a lot with them and I always try to be busy as long as possible.

Q: What do you know about what is happening in Spain? What news do you get?

R: When I talk to my family and friends they tell me everything that is happening in Spain. I am also informed of what happens in the rest of the world through the internet and social networks. My friends from the United States and people from my town also ask me how is the situation there in Spain. Hopefully it will pass soon and we will return to normal.
