August 17 from 2019 - 09: 47

El fast ferry Pinar del Río Friday night ran aground, at 23: 20 hours, at the pier of the port of Dénia, specifically about 300 meters from the Port. On board were traveling 393 passengers, 21 crew members and 70 vehicles, for which there is no need to regret personal injury for any passenger or crew member. The fast ferry, which came from Palma and Ibiza, was going to dock at the port when the ship was stranded.

All passengers, unharmed, were evacuated with the vessels of Maritime Rescue, Civil Guard of the Sea, Dénia Practitioner, Local and National Police of Dénia, the tugboat of Baleària, as well as other private boats. The evacuation ended at 02: 20 hours.

In the early hours of Saturday, Maritime Rescue deploys the anti-pollution barrier in a preventive way, although from Balearia they assure that there was no fuel spill.

Vehicles on board

For passengers with vehicles on board, which could not be disembarked, Baleària enabled two buses, one to Valencia and another to Alicante, with stops both in different towns. Likewise, Baleària will keep in touch with these passengers to inform them when they will be able to remove it. In addition, he has disembarked and delivered to the passengers all the belongings they had on board.

The shipping company will relocate customers who had to travel on Saturday and in the next few days with the Pinar del Río on the Dénia-Ibiza-Palma route, on the Cecilia Payne, Ramon Llull and Marie Curie ships.

An underwater services company is evaluating the damage recorded in the starboard hull, in order to prepare the ship's refloating plan and transfer it to the port, where it will be possible to disembark the vehicles that remain inside.

Baleària, which from the outset collaborates with the maritime authorities to determine the causes of the incident, regrets the damage caused to the affected passengers. The action was coordinated by Salvamento Marítimo and Capitanía Marítima, the latter in charge of the investigation.
