2519 people of the Marina Alta benefited from the action of Cáritas in 2017

Cáritas in La Marina Alta has presented its corresponding Annual Report to 2017. According to the data, a total of 2519 people were beneficiaries of their action, corresponding to a 19% less than in the previous year.

Those responsible for Cáritas have attributed this reduction, which has been occurring in the last five years, among other causes, to the chronification of situations of poverty that affect the people served by the entity, which causes them to be trapped in realities of exclusion. from which it is increasingly difficult to leave, so that the same families are treated year after year. In this sense, they have explained that the 79 percent of the beneficiaries of Cáritas in 2017 were known from previous years.

The profile of the beneficiaries who most demand the support of Caritas are single women, young couples with children and single people. Also, the data indicate that the 64% are foreign people and most of them are women, an 73%. It also highlights a high percentage of minors, who in the Navy reached the 32 percent of the beneficiaries of the action of Caritas.

Projects

Cáritas have training and employment projects in progress in Dénia and two solidarity gardens in Xàbia and Dénia; a commissary in Benissa and in Dénia, a solidarity closet to cover the basic needs in food, hygiene and clothing of the families accompanied; as well as a music therapy project at the Pedreguer Hospital for the chronically ill.

Cáritas also has clothing containers located in the parish of San Miguel de Dénia, in Ondara and Gata de Gorgos and clothes collection also in the rest of the parishes of the Marina Alta where you can deposit clothes, footwear and accessories whatever your state. With the donation of clothes, work is generated for people at risk of exclusion through the insertion companies @rropa and Koopera Mediterránea.

In the 2017 year, Cáritas counted in La Marina Alta with the selfless work of 351 volunteers, most of them (80%) women. In addition, he invested a total of 176.749 euros in primary care to cover basic needs of food, housing (supplies, rentals, etc.) and medicines, among other aids, to the people he accompanies.

Likewise, the 78% of the resources that the entity has come from its own funds through donations, collections and awareness actions. In Dénia 34.031 were the euros destined with an 80% of own funds.

On the occasion of the launching of the new Strategic Plan for the next five years (2018-2022), Cáritas announced the commitment of the institution for the accompaniment of people to make their rights effective. In the same way, they propose, for the next few years, to continue to denounce the causes that generate inequality and poverty and maintain their objective to improve processes and transparency.

New management of food delivery in Dénia

In Dénia this year there has been a change in the management of food delivery, it is no longer done through the commissary but with solidarity bank cards. A prepaid bank card that dignifies the right to food, since it allows the person who receives it to buy autonomously in commercial food establishments. Thus, it is promoted that people accompanied by Caritas can continue to buy at the usual points without knowing that they receive help. In this locality, the beneficiaries were 569, with percentages in terms of profiles, nationality and sex coinciding with the region of La Marina.
