Artist in Javea Thanks to its light, its coast and its beauty, Jávea-Xàbia has captivated prestigious artists, most notably Joaquin Sorolla, Abril, Ricardo Verde and the engraver Lambert. In October 1896, Joaquin Sorolla Bastida came to Xàbia, where he fell in love with the sea and, in particular, with the spot below the Cabo de San Antonio. Shortly after his arrival Sorolla wrote a letter to his wife, Clotilde, saying: "This is the place I've always dreamed of: Sea and Mountain, but What a Sea! We who live in Valencia cannot imagine this grandiose nature: the Cabo de San Antonio is another wonder; an immense, enormous, reddish monument. Its colour in the waters gives such purity and a brilliant pure green, a colossal emerald . . .". Sorolla painted at least 107 pictures in Jávea, most of which are in private collections and in the Museo de Madrid. We urge you to visit the Museum, as it is like being in Jávea-Xàbia. Galerias |
